Article on Privacy Issues in relation to Satellite Images

Ray Purdy – Honorary Senior Research Associate in Law at University College London – has published an article on privacy issues in relation to satellite images on The Conversation. The author submits that in the light of sharper satellite images privacy threats cannot longer be ignored. He, therefore, concludes that more debate is needed about what should be considered acceptable and what constitutes intrusive monitoring from above. In the author’s view it is going to be a major task to balance the opportunities of sharper satellite images against the rights of citizens. Because satellites ultimately operate internationally, the author proposes that these discussions need to take place at a higher level than national governments.
