The US Army has awarded a $363.1m contract to ITT to provide single channel ground airborne radio system baseline systems control, system enhancements and logistics support. The 24-month base-firm-fixed-price contract includes 58,000 receiver transmitters (RT-1523), 34,800 VAA/INCs and 34,800 radio frequency amplifiers to be supplied to the army’s communications-electronics command. The RT-1523 radio works in both mounted and dismounted configurations and provides ad hoc network data services. The contract also offers the warfighter secure voice, IP data and GPS position reporting in a single system, when combined with the embedded SAASM GPS receiver. SINCGARS is currently used in more than 130 US military platforms, such as Humvees, Bradley fighting vehicles and transport trucks.
