NTSB Judge dismisses FAA Complaint against Commercial Drone User
On 6 March 2014, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Judge Patrick Geraghty dismissed the case of the Federal Administration Aviation (FAA) against Raphael Pirker. According to the FAA’s view, Pirker had allegedly illegally used drones to make a video of the University of Virginia. The FAA had sought to assess Pirker a civil penalty. However, Judge Geraghty granted Pirker’s motion to dismiss the complainant’s order of assessment on the grounds that the applied model aircraft neither underlay federal legislation nor any binding FAA rules. The FAA appealed this decision on the day after to the full National Transportation Safety Board.
