Falcon 9 Test Vehicle Destroyed
An experimental version of the Falcon 9, used to test technologies for future reusable versions, was destroyed during a flight, on August 22. At the time, the vehicle was performing the latest in a series of test flights at the McGregor site, in Texas.
In the official statement, SpaceX stated that during the flight, an anomaly was detected in the vehicle and the flight termination system automatically terminated the mission. SpaceX added that there were no injuries or near injuries and that an FAA representative was present at all times. Lastly, the company indicated that further information on this incident will be provided as soon as the flight data has been fully analysed.
