FAA Proposes New Rules for Small UAS
In the Federal Register of 23 February 2015, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued proposed rules on the “Operation and Certification of Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems”. Earlier UAS exemptions issued by the FAA related to, e.g., aerial mapping or tv productions, and were subject to more than 30 conditions and limitations. In contrast to these, the proposed rules for “small” UAS merely foresee comparably light conditions. The FAA also introduced a new type of certificate required for the operation of small UAS, named “unmanned aircraft operator certificate”.
