Satellite Communication grows steadily
The change in the orientation of European defence into an expeditionary force, has allowed satellite communication, also called SATCOM, to become the most important of integrating platforms and forces under one roof. European MODs are acquiring SATCOM capability since it is recognised as a force multiplier in the new European defence posture. Therefore the European defence strategic communication market expects a compound annual growth rate of 8 per cent from 2009 to 2018, despite the financial crisis. « The market is showing signs of rising demand for higher frequencies and wider bandwidths, » says a Research Analyst from Frost & Sullivan. Especially improved sensors including unmanned aerial vehicles and personnel needs to communicate with the soldiers families back home, have all generated a massive increase in bandwidth demand for smooth transmission of voice, data, video and images. That is why companies are likely to gain higher returns from investing in satellites that operate with higher frequency payloads. Even in the days of the financial crisis, there could be a significant opportunity for new entrants and investors.
