Anomalies in map of Kerala remote sensing centre
The New Indian Express published a report on major discrepancies of maps of Ecological Sensitive Areas in the State of Kerala, prepared by the Kerala State Remote Sensing and Environment Centre (KSREC). These discrepancies include showcasing of Mathikettan Shola, a national park, as agricultural, the exclusion of human settlements, plantations and agricultural land from the Ecological Sensitive Areas, and the failure to identify ecological hot spots like Wagamon and Kuruva islands as protected areas. The report, moreover, draws the attention the fact that the map fails to draw connectivity between the fragmented forest areas in the State.
