Dr. Jana Jentzsch, LL.M.

Dr. Jana Jentzsch has been a specialist lawyer for information technology law (IT law) since 2011. She advises and represents well-known German and foreign companies and authorities on legal and strategic issues in the field of software use, in particular in connection with risk assessments in the area of technology use (software licenses, AI applications, data use, information security) and the legal implications of digitization strategies (e.g., in the context of cloud transformation and AI implementation). From September 2021 to March 2022, she successfully completed the “Technology Leadership Program” at the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Jentzsch has particular experience with SAP software contracts and works for the German SAP User Group (DSAG) as a speaker in seminars on SAP contract law, among others.

Dr. Jentzsch studied law at the universities of Bonn, Milan, and Cologne and worked as a freelan-ce journalist for a publishing house in the Federal Press House during her studies. After passing her first state examination, she earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in international air and space law at Leiden University (Netherlands). As part of her LL.M. studies, she completed internships at the International Court of Arbitration in The Hague and the European Space Agency in Paris. Dr. Jentzsch (née Hettling) wrote her doctoral thesis in English under Prof. Dr. Stephan Hobe at the University of Cologne on legal issues relating to the use of data from satellite-based Earth observa-tion (“Satellite Imagery for Verification and Enforcement of Public International Law”).

During her legal training, Dr. Jentzsch worked in the economic and press departments of the German Embassy in Washington, D.C., and at an international commercial law firm in Cologne in the field of information technology/intellectual property. After passing her second state law exam in 2005, she was admitted to the bar. Dr. Jentzsch initially worked as a lawyer in an international commercial law firm in Frankfurt am Main in the “Technology, Media, Telecommunications” prac-tice group.

She then worked for two and a half years at a renowned media law firm in Hamburg before founding her own IT law firm in Hamburg in 2009. Since December 2011, Dr. Jentzsch has been certified by the Hamburg Bar Association as a specialist lawyer for information technology law. Dr. Jentzsch advises in particular on software licenses, AI applications, and data transfers.
