Dr. Jost Schmidt joined BHO Legal in October 2026 as a legal associate. He specialises in IT law, data protection law and copyright law.

After completing vocational training in digital and print media publishing at the renowned publishing house S. Fischer Verlag, he studied law at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, specialising in media and communications law. During his studies, he worked as a student employee in international licensing at S. Fischer Verlag and as a research assistant at Media Kanzlei in Frankfurt am Main. He subsequently worked as a research and teaching assistant at the University of Bonn, at the chair held by former Federal Commissioner for Data Protection Prof. Dr. Louisa Specht-Riemenschneider , where he also completed his doctorate in copyright law.

Dr. Schmidt completed his legal traineeship in the district of the Higher Regional Court of Cologne. His placements included the Media, Technology & Communications practice of an international law firm, the office of the Digital Services Coordinator at the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), and a boutique law firm specialising in media law.
